Hibou Systems started as an idea from a volunteer firefighter, an idea of a technology that could help save lives in emergency interventions. It was this idea that sparked a project between researchers at Ontario Tech University and the Oshawa fire department. From there Samuel and Tyler took the project through a startup incubator, where the FireNav startup won two pitch competitions. By January of 2021 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic Brayden, the volunteer firefighter who started this journey years prior, was invited by the FireNav team to start a new venture: Hibou Systems. Building on the lessons learned in the lab we are striving to bring that same life-saving technology to users across Canada for any localization application.
Hibou Systems combines aspects of computer vision and radar-like technologies to create mapping and contextual localization systems. The end result is something futurists have dreamt about for years: a real time overlay of personnel, equipment or anything you want to track, over a digital 2D or 3D map of the environment.
